Operation C |
---|
Also known as: Contra (JP), Probotector (EU) This game has a hidden sound test. |
I had the NES Game Genie and Genesis Game Genie when I was a kid. I remember actually doing the triple stack of Game Genie, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3. It was what was in my Genesis most of the time. I cheated a lot when I was a kid, but I don't remember beating any games while using the Game Genie for some reason. And select changed the mode to two players, and then start started the game, but the 'select start' is generally referred as part of the code. This code is referred to as 'The Konami Code', 'The Contra Code', or simply 'The Code'.
Operation C is a Contra game on the Game Boy with the soundtrack of Contra and gameplay of Super C. Seriously, Konami...you didn't have to.
- 5Regional Differences
Sound Test
Press Up, Down, Left, Right, Start at the title screen. A plays the selected track, B stops, and Up/Down change tracks unless one is playing.
Level Select
Press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, B, A, Start at the title screen.
This only requires a code in the US version, and original European version.
It appears normally in both Japanese versions, and the European Konami GB Collection; many very early Konami Game Boy games (such as this game, Nemesis, and TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan) featured a level select by default with some sort of punishment for playing the game to completion by starting on a later level, possibly owing to low battery life.
However, the level select cheat only allow players to access stages 1-4, not 5. Using patch codes can change this, which shows that it is present in the game’s code, but likely dummied out.
Also the Japanese version use this cheat to add an extra lives instead. The US and the European version uses the third kind of code for this.
Debug Leftovers
Use the Game Genie code 00A-EBF-C4D to re-enable the simple sprite viewer. During the game, press Start, then use A/B to replace the player's sprite with the one of the assigned sprite resources. Some of them are broken, there is no validity test for it.
Version Differences
The original European version has typical Probotector sprite swaps of humans to robots. This was reverted for Konami GB Collection, despite keeping the Probotector name.
As with all Konami GB Collection games, the Japanese update added Super Game Boy support, which was replaced by Game Boy Color support in Europe.
